"You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hid. No one after lighting a lamp puts it under the bushel basket, but on the lamp stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven." Matthew 5:14-16

General Information

Irondequoit Presbyterian Church is a protestant Christian congregation formed and following the teachings and polity of the Presbyterian Church (USA.) We are a member of the Presbytery of Genesee Valley, the Synod of the Northeast and the PCUSA.

While worship is at the center of our life together, Irondequoit Presbyterian Church also offers many additional opportunities for spiritual development, fellowship, and service through participation on a variety of church committees, activities, and special events.

Listed below are the committees that support the workings of this church. All the committees welcome new members. Please check them out and see where you might best be able to serve.

Session

The Session is the governing body of the congregation; twelve of its members are elected as Elders by and from the congregation for three-year terms of office. These Elders also chair the several committees of our church. The pastor is the moderator of the Session and an ex-officio member of all church committees. The Session is responsible for all church committees, overall church mission and spiritual leadership. The Session typically meets the 3rd Monday of the month.

Pastor and Moderator - Rev. Deborah Grohman

Clerk - Betty Hopkins

Christian Education Committee - (Sarah Cohen, Carole Milner) Provides opportunities for spiritual growth and education for all ages, including Sunday School, Adult Study, special series, and more.

Church and Community Committee - (Bob Monigle, Jim Tappon) Develops opportunities for faith in action and discipleship and seeks ways to create a more welcoming environment for visitors and prospective new members. Oversees and recommends church participation in outreach activities and special care projects.

Finance - (Joe Hinchman, Ron Kendig) Responsible for the oversight and administration of all church financial operations.

Stewardship Committee - (Ron Kendig) Develops strategies for funding the church's activities by organizing the annual campaign. The committee is forming a taskforce to provide information and education of giving through Wills, Trusts, and Deferred Giving.

Personnel Committee - (Vernie Grammer, Sharri Caley) - Responsible for support, administration, and evaluation of church staff.

Property & Maintenance Committee - (Weldon Brinson) - Responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of all church property.

Worship Committee - (Glenn Murrell) Oversees all aspects of the worship experience, including worship traditions, practices, and appointments.

Nominating Committee - Elected committee responsible for recruiting and recommending a slate of candidates for terms as elders & Deacons.

All committees of Session will meet on the second Sunday of the month after the morning service is concluded.

Deacons

The Board of Deacons consists of members of our congregation elected to minister among us; Deacons ‘shepherd’ our members by keeping in weekly contact with their ‘assigned’ parishioners and coordinating any member’s ‘special needs’. Deacons also serve on several of the committees of our church. The elected board of 12 Deacons ministers to shut-ins, to the ill or bereaved and to those with special needs. Deacons will meet the third Sunday of the month after the morning service is concluded.
